NEWITALIANBOOKS: The new portal for the promotion of Italian publishing in the world

“Many times, over the past few weeks we’ve wondered what we could do during lockdown without books and reading. Also for this reason it must be very clear how necessary it is to put in place a systemic action to support the world of culture, strongly affected by the health emergency and also by the measures we were forced to take to contain the pandemic”.

This was stated by Vice-Minister Marina Sereni, during the videoconference presentation of the New Italian Books portal, for the promotion of Italian publishing abroad, created by Treccani, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Mibact, in collaboration with the Italian Publishers’ Association.

“The support to our publishing industry abroad – underlined the Vice Minister – is among the priority lines of action, also thanks to the extraordinary funds allocated with the “Cura Italia” decree. Various measures have been planned for this fundamental sector of the economy”.

The digital press conference illustrated the functions and aims of the new platform.

In addition to the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sereni were also present: Massimo Bray, Publishing Director of the Istituto della Enciclopedia Italiana (Institute of Italian Encyclopedia), Lorenzo Angeloni, Director General for the promotion of the Country System (Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation), Romano Montroni, President of Cepell, Ricardo Franco Levi, President of AIE.

A forum on the international projection of Italian publishing followed, moderated by Cristina Faloci, with the participation of Helena Janeczek, winner of the Premio Strega (Strega Award) 2018, and Federico Andornino, publisher at Weidenfeld & Nicolson (London).

The event was also enhanced through the network of 83 Italian Cultural Institutes of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, on the Cepell Facebook page (www.facebook.com/cepell) and on the AIE (Italian Publishers Association) website (www.aie.it).
