Platform “Italiani all’Estero: i diari raccontano”

It was presented on June 10th, 2019, the new platform “Italiani all’estero: I diari raccontano” in the presence of the Secretary General of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), Ambassador Elisabetta Belloni. The website portal was created by Fondazione Archivio Diaristico Nazionale of Pieve Santo Stefano in collaboration and with the contribution of the Directorate General for Italian Citizens Abroad and Migration Policies of MAECI.

The foundation was established in 1991 thanks to an initiative of the Municipality of Pieve Santo Stefano with the aim of preserving and enhancing, through publication, popular stories, which are repositories of the Italians’ memories.

This project consists in the selection of some of the most significant collected stories: approximately 200 taken from more than a thousand filed in the foundation, telling the life of Italians abroad from the nineteenth century to the present day. The initiative also intends to revive the common experience of the past Italian migrants, also considering the new phenomenon of the current Italian mobility abroad. The materials published on the website and continuously updated with new stories can be used for educational and cultural purposes.

While preserving the value of memory, the project is also aimed at enhancing paths of rediscovery of the origins for the new generations residing abroad.
