The Embassy of Italy to the State of Qatar is strongly committed to adopt high sustainability standards and effectively implement them in the workplace, in line with the programme of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs aimed at building a “green” network of Embassies and Consulates around the world through the promotion of environmentally-friendly initiatives, such as material recycling, waste sorting and a rational use of water and power. Italy and Qatar share the principles of preserving the environment and natural resources, and are engaged in integrating them in their policies as core values within environmentally responsible practices.
In this context and on the occasion of the Global Recycling Day, the Embassy of Italy is particularly pleased to cooperate with the Qatari company Elite Paper Recycling (EPR), by signing a partnership declaration to exchange experiences and ideas and promote environmental sustainability as a central value to encourage positive social developments.
According to this agreement, the Embassy of Italy will regularly recycle wastepaper to enhance responsible behaviour in the workplace and implement environmentally-friendly procedures in daily activities. The Embassy is also committed to externally promote paper recycling and raise awareness on environmental issues through the organization of specific initiatives, media campaigns, educational programmes and cultural events.
It is on the sensitive subject of saving natural resources for future generations that H.E. Ambassador of Italy, Pasquale Salzano, and the Chairman of EPR, Abdalla Al Suwaidi, have found a common vision to raise social awareness, especially among young people.
“I am very proud – says H.E. Ambassador of Italy, Pasquale Salzano – to start a partnership on public diplomacy to support environmental sustainability. We want to demonstrate that recycling is not an obstacle to an efficient management of workflow. In fact the adoption and implementation of high sustainability standards make the workplace well-functioning and productive. The attention to these aspects represents an added value in terms of employees’ well-being and positively impacts on social developments”.
“The cultural programme of the Embassy – concludes the Ambassador – has paid special attention to the principle of environmental sustainability. Last October we organized “The Shapes of Water” Exhibition, related to different uses of water in the framework of the Qatar Sustainability Week. This coming Wednesday, the 20th of March, on the occasion of the Italian Design Day in the World, we will hold a panel discussion in the fields of sustainable design, innovative technologies and “smart cities” to encourage the debate on how to ensure a proper quality life for next generations”.
“Italian and Qatari new generations are both very concerned with environmental issues and keen to protect precious primary resources – concluded Ambassador Salzano. “Abdulla is a young and dynamic entrepreneur and embodies the strong commitment of his generation to safeguard the environment and promote practices that meet needs in the present without compromising the ability of individuals to meet their needs in the future. Qatar can be very proud of these young leaders that are eager to better shape the future of the world.”
