Yesterday evening, in the prestigious location of the Qatar National Theatre, the “Adorno Quartet” – composed by Edoardo Zosi and Liù Pelliciari (violin), Benedetta Bucci (viola) and Danilo Squitieri (cello) – played some masterpieces representing the best European Classical music.
The concert is part of the initiative “Young Italian Music Talents in the World” promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreing Affairs in partnership with the renowned Chigiana Academy of Siena.

Welcome to the concert of the Adorno Quartet, organised by the Embassy of Italy in Doha in cooperation with the prestigious Chigiana Academy of Siena – one of Italy’s most important music institutions, where musicians from all around the world gather to attend highly-specialised courses and trainings.
It is within the Academy that the members of the Quartet met each other, formed the ensemble and started their international career, gaining prestigious awards and recognitions.
The group is here tonight in the framework of the initiative “Young Italian Music Talents in the World”, a programme launched by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chigiana Academy to promote the Italian outstanding traditions in the field of chamber music and support the professional path of our best young musicians.
Tonight, we will have the pleasure to enjoy the extraordinary talent of Edoardo Zosi and Liù Pelliciari playing violin, Benedetta Bucci – viola – and Danilo Squitieri – cello – who will play a unique repertoire including masterpieces of Beethoven, Schubert and Puccini, and a composition by the contemporary Italian composer Silvia Colasanti.

This year the Embassy of Italy has implemented a wide and intense cultural programme in the fields of design, arts, cinema and Italian language. We recently participated in the Katara Dhow Festival showcasing at “Casa Italia” – which has been a very successful stand – some of our famous marine and artisanal traditions. Now it’s time to promote our outstanding interpreters and our music culture, which has deep and ancient roots.
The Italian legacy in the field of classical music is remarkable. Italian composers created the first symphonies and defined the eight-note octave. Our craftsmen invented musical instruments and refined many others, such as piano and violin. The introduction of important innovations in musical scales, harmony and notation enabled the development of opera and much of modern European classical music. Indeed music continues to play a central role in the definition of the Italian national identity and has become one of the icons that makes our culture renowned and appreciated all over the world.

Spotlights tonight are on musical talent and excellent chamber music. Before leaving the floor to Maestro Cesare Mancini representing Chigiana Academy, that I want to warmly thank, let me also address my gratitude to the Minister of Culture and Sports, H.E. Salah bin Ghanim Al Ali, for his continuous support to the initiatives of the Italian Embassy, and to the Qatar National Theatre for hosting this event.
Let me finally thank all of you for being here tonight. I really hope you will enjoy the extraordinary performance of these gifted young musicians.
