The award-winning Italian producer and director Francesco Rosi presented his latest documentary “Fuocoammare” at the Doha Film Institute

Ambassador Pasquale Salzano welcomed yesterday to his residence the award-winning Italian producer and director Francesco Rosi, in Doha for the “Qumra” (9-14 March), an initiative by the Doha Film Institute aimed to provide training and mentoring to young filmmakers.

Francesco Rosi successfully presented his most recent documentary “Fuocoammare” (2016), set in the Italian island of Lampedusa and dedicated to the drama of migrants in the Sicilian Channel. Thanks to his production, the producer and director turned out to be winner of numerous awards, in particular the Teddy Award for the best film at the Berlin International Film Festival, the European Film Award for the best documentary and the Academy Award nomination in the best documentary category.

After the film showing, Rosi – as one of the six Qumra Masters – held a masterclass for students and young professionals in the sector, during which he recalled his career and told the genesis of his documentaries.
