QATAR. MINISTER ALFANO: STOP TO THE ESCALATION. WE ENCOURAGE THE EFFORT OF ANYONE PROMOTING DIALOGUE AMONG THE PARTIES.
(ANSA) – ROME, JUNE 7 – “We appreciate the effort of anyone trying to make the parties talk” to resolve the diplomatic crisis between the Gulf countries, Egypt and Qatar”, Foreign Minister Angelino Alfano affirmed at the sidelines of a meeting with UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura. “There is great concern about the ongoing crisis among the Gulf Cooperation Council countries,” Alfano added, expressing the hope for an interruption of the escalation and emphasizing that “we encourage not only those who work for mediation, but specifically the Countries involved to adress the serious divergences through direct dialogue, within the GCC.” These are countries with which Italy has close friendship and cooperation relations” – he said – “whose contribution is vital to the stability of the region and to the solution of the ongoing regional crises. Dialogue and collaboration between all the countries in the region are crucial to defeat the common enemy, that is terrorism. At this stage, it is paramount to preserve the unity and cohesion of the Gulf Cooperation Council, while at the same time relieving tensions and promoting the restoration of confidence in the region “
