Italian Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Maria Tripodi, today attended the opening ceremony of \u201cEXPO Doha 2023 \u2013 Green Desert, Better Environment\u201d, the universal exposition dedicated to horticulture, environment and sustainability hosted by the State of Qatar until the end of March 2024 and opened by Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The ceremony was followed by the inauguration of the Italian pavilion, named \u201cThe Garden of the Future\u201d, the largest European exhibition space in the event. The Italian pavilion was visited by Emir Tamin Bin Hamad Al Thani joined by his sisters Sheikha Al-Mayassa and Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, President of the United Arab Emirates Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who were welcomed by Undersecretary Tripodi and Ambassador to Qatar Paolo Toschi. \u201cThe Garden of the Future\u201d showcases a wide range of cutting-edge techniques in agriculture suitable for combating desertification and minimising crops\u2019 environmental impact and water use. Produced by Italian Trade Agency and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, it \u201cperfectly matches the goal of EXPO Doha 2023 and presents the best of Italian technologies in the agricultural sector to an international audience that is always attentive to the latest developments in sustainability,\u201d Undersecretary Tripodi said at the inauguration, adding that \u201cOur companies can play a major role, especially in a context such as North Africa and the Middle East, in combating desertification, promoting the economy and food security of many countries of primary importance to our national interest. Italy has the largest pavilion among European countries in Doha; this confirms our desire to play a leading role in the region, as demonstrated by the recent visit to Qatar by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni\u201d.
Undersecretary Tripodi also held a bilateral meeting with her Qatari counterpart, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Lolwah Rashid Al Khater. During the meeting, which follows the recent visit of Prime Minister Meloni to Doha, topics of mutual interest for Italy and Qatar were addressed, in particular the main regional dossiers and the follow-ups to the Rome conference on development and migration, in which Al Khater herself took part.<\/p>\n
