The Embassy of Italy in Doha celebrated on November 4th the \u201cItalian National Unity and Armed Forces Day\u201d, held on the occasion of the anniversary of the end of World War I and celebrating\u00a0 Italy\u2019s national unity. The ceremony was attended by his Excellency Paolo Toschi, Ambassador of Italy to the State of Qatar, Colonel Fausto Ricchetti, Italian Defense Attach\u00e9, and Admiral Dario Giacomin, Italian Representative to the NATO Military Committee, as well as diplomats, stakeholders and dignitaries. Among them, most notably, members of the Italian and Qatari armed forces. The celebration was an opportunity to reaffirm the strong cooperation in the defense sector between Italy and Qatar, recently outlined in the occasion of the State Visit of His Highness the Emir to Rome in October 20th-22nd. The bilateral partnership in the sector encompasses all military domain and includes joint training and exercises, as well as industrial and technological cooperation.<\/p>\n

The ever growing partnership between Italy and Qatar will be uniquely honored by the stationing of the ship \u201cAmerigo Vespucci\u201d, the oldest active military vessel in the Italian Navy, which will be stationed in Doha\u2019s Old Port from the 17th to the 22nd of December, 2024, on the occasion of Qatar\u2019s National Day. Commissioned in the 1931, it is an historical, iconic, training ship, as well as Ambassador of UNESCO and UNICEF. A unique and inimitable symbol of Italy\u2019s maritime and cultural heritage, the ship will be accessible to the public through on board visits that are sure to awe and to attract thousands. Moreover, an \u201cItalian Village\u201d will be set up alongside the ship, with the aim of promoting Italian culture, art, and lifestyle through conferences, business and institutional meetings, movies, concerts, cooking shows, immersive exhibitions, art, sport, technology, design.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe friendship between Italy and Qatar\u2019s militaries is one of the pillars of our bilateral relationship\u201d said Ambassador Paolo Toschi. \u201cToday, we are proud to celebrate\u00a0 Italy\u2019s National Unity and Armed Forces day alongside our friends from Qatar\u2019s Armed Forces. In the same spirit, we are happy to take this opportunity to announce the arrival of \u201cNave Vespucci\u201d in Doha on the occasion of Qatar National Day\u201d he added. \u201cThe presence of the ship in Qatar, as well as the rich program of activations that will be arranged within the Village will be our way to homage the success of our bilateral partnership: a special gift from Italy to Qatar as remarked by the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, to His Highness the Emir during his State Visit to Rome in October\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n

Taking the floor after Ambassador Toschi, Defense Attach\u00e9 Colonel Ricchetti remarked that \u201cthe 2024 National Unity Day and Armed Forces Day\u2019s claim is, \u201cSiamo l\u2019Italia\u201d, \u201cWe are Italy\u201d. A nation that embraces the future with confidence, supported by the exceptional dedication of our armed forces both at home and abroad, especially during crisis and emergency situations. Silently and consistently, men and women from Italian Armed Forces bring everyday safety and peace across four continents, supporting 35 active missions around the world\u201d. \u201cMy sincere thanks goes to our counterpart, my friends in the State of Qatar, for their partnership: our joint efforts have fostered a spirit of cooperation that strengthens not only our missions but also the bonds between our nations\u201d, he concluded.<\/p>\n
