Cultural Cooperation

On the occasion of the Visit of H.H. Emir to Rome (July 13-14, 2005), negotiations started to sign a bilateral agreement on cultural cooperation; Such Agreement was finally signed on the occasion of the visit to Doha of the Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs D'Alema (January 14th, 2007).
The entry into force of this agreement will allow to improve in a significant way cultural relations between the two countries, building on the already significant cooperation.

The Italian Embassy in Doha organizes cultural events in different artistic disciplines. We can remember, among the most recent ones:

  • April 2004: Exhibition "Islam in Sicily" (within Doha Cultural Festival).
  • December 2004: Piano Concert of Maestro Antonio Sardi de Letto, held in Al Mukhtasar Ballroom of the Ritz Carlton in Doha.
  • December 2005: Piano Concert of Maestro Antonio Sardi de Letto, held in Al Mukhtasar Ballroom of the Ritz Carlton in Doha.
  • June 2006: On the occasion of the National Day: Performance of Violin of Lavinia Balasu, in the garden of the Italian Ambassador's Residence.
  • October 2006: Concert "Classica Napoletana" of Consiglia Licciardi and her group, held in the National Theatre of Qatar in Doha.
  • April 2007: Concert of Alessandro Safina (within Doha Cultural Festival).
  • May 2007: Opera Concert of the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale di Spoleto "A. Belli", held in the National Theatre of Qatar in Doha.
  • November-December 2007: Exhibition "Italian Style: dressing body and daily life" at Fahad bin Ali Palace. The exhibition has been inaugurated during the State Visit of the President of the Italian Republic, Giorgio Napolitano, by the President and the Emir of the State of Qatar, Hamd bin Khalifa Al Thani.
  • December 2007: Piano Concert of Maestro Antonio Sardi de Letto, held in Al Mukhtasar Ballroom of the Ritz Carlton in Doha.
  • January 2008: dinner memorial in honor of Maestro Luciano Pavarotti, held in Al Fayrouz Ballroom of the Marriott Hotel in Doha.
  • March 2008: Presentation of the "Barber of Seville" of Rossini by the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale di Spoleto "A. Belli". (within Doha Cultural Festival).
  • May 2008: Piano concert of the Italian pianist Cristiana Pegoraro, held in Al Fayrouz Ballroom of the Marriott Hotel in Doha.
  • November 2008: Concert of the Italian singer Fatima Scialdone, held in Al Fayrouz Ballroom at the Marriott Hotel in Doha.
  • November 2008: Inauguration of the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha. Several art pieces from Italian museums featured in the inaugural exhibition.
  • January 2009: Exhibition of contemporary Italian paintings at Waqif Art Centre in Doha. Organized by the "Pugliese Arte" Gallery of Florence in collaboration with the Centre for Visual Arts of Qatar.
  • September-November 2010: Course of Italian Literature and Culture at Qatar University for honor students, belonging to various faculties of the University.
  • November 2010: On the occasion of the celebrations for the day of the Italian Armed Forces, concert by the band Arciliuto.
  • January 2011: Creation of the Doha Delegation of the Italian Academy of Cuisine.
  • June 2011: Participation of Sheikha Mayassa at the Venice Bienniale.
  • June 2011: Concert performed by the Maestro Salvatore Accardo and violinist Laura Gorna at the Opera House Theatre in Doha, celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Italian Unification.
  • October 2011: Katara hosts the event "Written in Italy", travelling exhibition of Italian literature translated into foreign languages.
  • April 2012:Signature of the Bilateral Agreement on Education, Higher Education and Research, during the State Visit of HH the Emir to Italy

Currently, neither an Italian Cultural Institute nor "Societa' Dante Alighieri" are present in Doha. However, courses in Italian language are given frequently in Formation Centers and Private Educational Institutes ("Berlitz"), with teachers recruited among the Italian Community.
