OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE – “SHARADA” PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION

The Embassy of Italy to the State of Qatar has announced the opening of the exhibition “Sharada” by the Italian photographer Francesca Pompei, organized jointly with the Qatar National Library and hosted in the inspiring venue of the Library’s main Plaza.
The exhibition is focused on Pompei’s works on Doha architectures and landscapes, with one photo, depicting the Ceremonial Court in Education City, awarded last October in the “New Buildings” category of “Trieste Photo Days”. The photographer has indeed found great inspiration in the capital of Qatar and its avant-garde architectures, designed by international renowned names such as Jean Nouvel, Rem Koolhaas, Arata Isozaki and Ieoh Ming Pei.
“The exhibition is part of the celebrations for the Italian Contemporary Art Day, promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Italian Association of Contemporary Art Museums”, highlighted Ambassador Alessandro Prunas. “We are particularly proud of having Francesca Pompei’s works here: they create a clear connection between Italy and Qatar, as they show Doha’s iconic architectural sights from the eyes of an Italian artist”, he concluded.
“What is most amazing is the grandeur of these hypermodern buildings which stand out from a silent and solitary perspective in a space between the known city and the other side”, said Pompei. She describes Doha as “an enigmatic landscape which, evoking a metaphysical dimension, invites to a journey through a fairy fascination like The Thousand and One Nights”.
“Sharada” will be open to the public from 9th December 2021 to 12th January 2022 during Qatar National Library’s opening hours. Admission is free.
