Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Matteo Salvini visits Qatar

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, H. E. Matteo Salvini, visited Doha to participate in the MILIPOL international exhibition on homeland security and civil defense.

Minister Salvini – accompanied by the Ambassador of Italy, H. E. Pasquale Salzano, met the Emir of the State of Qatar, H. H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Prime Minister and the Minister of the Interior, H. E. Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, H. E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.

Focus of the meetings the bilateral cooperation on homeland security and, in the economic field, ways to support the Italian companies operating in the area, in addition to regional dossiers of common interest, including the situation in Libya.

Minister Slavini met also the representatives of the Italian companies on show at Milipol Qatar 2018, including Beretta, Elettronica and Cristanini. After that, the Minister greeted the Italian National Team of Artistic Gymnastics, in Doha for the World championships.

The visit of Minister Salvini ended with a ceremony on board of the frigate Federico Martinengo, the Italian Navy ship engaged in the EU anti-piracy operation “Atalanta”, where he met the Italian community residing in Qatar.
